There’s family fun and more at Ocean Beach Park. New this year is our Splash Park for kids under 8. For more water fun we have the ocean, of course, an Olympic-size swimming pool and a triple waterslide. Our award-winning lifeguard staff is on duty for your safety. There is a fee.

Day Pond State Park

Visitors to Day Pond State Park will find the stone foundation reminders of the colonial era when water from the pond powered the nearby sawmill. Now stocked with trout, Day Pond is an attractive area for fishermen.

Hopeville Pond State Park
Just off State Route 138
Griswold, CT
One of the area’s largest parks, on 554 acres, and features a freshwater pond, beach, fishing, picnic areas, and hiking and biking trails.

Rocky Neck State Park
Just off State Route 156
East Lyme, CT
This state park consists of over a mile of beachfront and woods for enjoyment. Swimming, saltwater fishing and scuba diving are permitted in Long Island Sound. Hiking trails are also available in the woods.

Sound View Beach

Fewer crowds and concession stands are the mark of this small beach in Old Lyme. Parking is available for a fee in lots run by the town.

Stroll this small crescent beach and the adjacent McCook Park trails and Niantic Bay Boardwalk. Then take a dip in the shallow waters off this beach, one that is perfect for youngsters still learning to swim. You must obtain a parking pass at the Parks and Recreation offices. There is a fee.

Niantic Bay Boardwalk

Railroad Beach

It provides a less crowded alternative to other nearby municipal beaches and there is no parking fee to access this narrow strip of sandy beach. However, be aware, that there is no lifeguard on duty here. No Fee.

Rocky Neck’s varied terrain offers something for everyone. A wide sand beach and large stone pavilion will appeal to all. The park’s diverse trail system provides interesting walks for viewing wildlife. There are fees.

Bluff Point State Park and Reserve

Located at the end of Depot Road, this approximately 800-acre State reserve lies between the Poquonnock River and Mumford Cove. One of the largest natural areas in the State, it contains not only a variety of wildlife but also a barrier beach, steep cliffs, forested lands, and tidal wetlands. No fee.

The site offer showers, picnic tables, a concession stand, and a playground. Shallow water depths along the beach and seasonal supervised swimming also make this beach a favorite for families. Seasonal parking stickers are available for purchase on an annual basis. A daily parking fee is also an option. There is a fee.

Esker Point Park

The park provides facilities for saltwater swimming and picnicking under a grove of shade trees. A snack bar, restrooms, and lifeguards are available during the summer season. There is a fee.

Fort Street Landing

There are benches and a grass area from which one can view submarines and commercial and recreational boats as they travel the Thames River. No parking is provided. No fee.

Main Street Dock and Beach

Selden Neck State Park

This is truly a place to “get away from it all.” The island park is accessible by water only. Primitive riverside campsites are available. Reservations required. There is a fee.

Greens Harbor Beach

Offering both a sandy beach and a harbor setting, visitors can swim and sunbathe at Greens Harbor Beach. Lifeguards provide supervised swimming seasonally. Food concessions and picnic tables are available. Sanitary facilities are available No fee.

Riverside Park

If you want solitude, you’ll find plenty of shade to relax in and view the Thames Rivers from a variety of prominent locations at this site. The park has some playground equipment as well. A footbridge across the railroad provides access to an unimproved area along the River. No fee.

Old Lyme Ferry Road Launch Site and Dock

Launch car-top boats at this site providing direct access to the Connecticut River. Old Lyme Ferry Road Launch Site and Dock offers small car-top boat access with a floating dock and a very small beach area for wading. Visitors may also picnic at this site. No fee.

Sound View Beach

Tired of bird watching? Try the people-watching opportunities here at Sound View- a nice sunbathing beach spot with many beach cottages. There are a few nearby shops and eating opportunities within walking distance. You might want to arrive early to get available parking. There is a fee.

Enjoy the site’s shallow water depths, on-site pavilion, and clean, family-oriented sandy beach. The beach’s 265 feet of shoreline fills up quickly so plan to arrive early. Stonington Community Center lifeguards monitor the beach for your safety. There is a fee.

Jordan Cove Water Access

Jordan Cove Water Access is a small barrier beach site. It is accessed through a densely developed neighborhood with little on-street parking. Visitors should respect the neighborhood by parking off-street within the site’s fenced parking area. No fee.

Pleasure Beach
50 New Shore Road
Waterford, Connecticut
Pleasure beach provides approximately 100 feet of Long Island Sound beach frontage with beautiful views of Long Island Sound. The parking lot is located across the street from the site, 5 houses to the north (approximately 100 yards). Lifeguard on duty daily from mid-June through Labor Day. No fee.

Waterford Beach Park

This nearly 1/4 mile long sandy beach provides one of the best examples of an intact dune system in the State. Municipal tennis courts are nearby. Daily parking passes for non-residents can be purchased at the gate and seasonal passes sold through the Parks and Recreation Department. Parking is limited, so plan to arrive early on the weekends. There is a fee.
