The Surf Club is a town owned 45 acre park with scenic views of Long Island Sound. Picnic areas, sports areas, and supervised swimming are provided at this beach. West Wharf Beach

West Wharf Beach offers a fishing pier with scenic views of Long Island Sound. The pier (wharf) was once used for ship building in earlier days. There is a fee.

Gulf Beach is a beautiful sandy beach with an access pier for fishing, picnic areas, and restrooms. Visitors have a view of Charles Island. There is a parking lot for residents on-site and non-resident parking across the street. No fee.

Silver Sands State Park is a State beach with an offshore island that is connected to the mainland by a sand and gravel bar (tombolo) that is submerged at high tide. Captain Kidd is reputed to have buried his treasure on the island in 1699. The island's interior is closed May 1 through August 31 to protect heron and egret rookeries. No fee.

Walnut Beach is a sandy beach and a great place to spend the day strolling along the edge of the Long Island Sound or fishing from the pier. Visitors have a view of Charles Island from this site. There is a large parking lot. There is a fee.

Lighthouse Point Park

Lighthouse Point Park offers something for everyone. One can view the 70-foot tall Five-Mile Point Lighthouse constructed in the 1840’s and also the Southwest Ledge Light, a scenic operating lighthouse. There is a fee.

Beaches from Bradley Point Park to Sandy Point are networked through a 1.7 mile walkway providing pedestrians, bicyclists and roller-bladers a continuous waterfront urban “greenway.” Views of Long Island Sound exist throughout most of the walkway. Most beach parking lots in West Haven close at 11:30 p.m. although the walkway is open 24 hours, every day. No fee.

Baybrook Beach is a small sandy beach. There is a small parking lot which accommodates only 2 or 3 cars. This site is ideal for bird watching. Visitors can enjoy a picnic at one of the tables provided. No fee.

Bradley Point Park

Bradley Point Park includes a small sandy beach and a developed walkway parallel to Long Island Sound. Park benches on-site provide vantage points for visitors to enjoy extensive views of Long Island Sound. Three sets of permanent posts for impromptu volleyball games are available on the sandy beach (in-season), thereby broadening the number of possible recreational opportunities for visitors. A temporary portable toilet serves as the only restroom facility on-site. There is a fee.

Dawson Avenue Beach is a wide sandy beach with some shallow water areas provides an ideal place for a family picnic with small children. No fee.

Morse Beach

Morse Beach is a large sandy beach. Visitors can enjoy distant views of the lighthouse in New Haven Harbor. A rocky outcropping into the Long Island Sound is suitable for fishing. There is a fee.

Oak Street Beach

Oak Street Beach is a sandy beach with a pier. This site is ideal for fishing. Night lights installed on the pier make walking out on the pier for strolling or fishing more pleasant. This beach is the site of recorded music four nights a week during the summer season. There is a fee.

Peck Beach

Peck Beach is a narrow beach nearly a mile long. Two stairways cross over sandy dunes to access sandy beach and waterfront. Parking is available at a City parking lot at Morse Beach about 3/4 miles to the east of Peck Beach. Visitors are advised to drop off beach gear with a companion at Peck Beach before parking and walking to this beach. There is a fee.

Sandy Point is a long stretch of sandy beach extending into New Haven Harbor that is popular for birding. To help you reach Sandy Point, some routes leading to this site are posted with the brown and white Long Island Sound Access sign.

Savin Rock Conference Center provides benches, telescopes and occasional public art displays. Interpretive signage is provided on the origins of Savin Rock. A gazebo is available if you prefer the shade. Beaches are adjacent to this site.

Seabluff Beach is one of West Haven's largest beaches. Three sets of volleyball posts are installed here for public use. This beach marks the western end of the West Haven beaches walkway. A linear parking lot and temporary sanitary facilities are in place at this site. Seabluff Beach is adjacent to Bradley Point Park. No fee.

South Street Beach

South Street Beach offers visitors a sandy crescent beach and grassy area to enjoy Long Island Sound. South Street Beach is well-suited for those looking for a quieter more contemplative beach experience. Parking lot accessibility is best one block north of South Street, directly across from Linwood Street. There is no fee.
